Worth a reshoot. Work through the tips below, starting with light.
What to fix
- Shot in daylight, with lights on and curtains open — Shoot mid-morning or early afternoon. Open every curtain and switch on all lamps so rooms don't look dim.
- No dark corners or blown-out windows — Don't point straight at a bright window. Shoot with the window to your side, or use an enhancer to balance the exposure.
- Phone held level, with vertical lines straight — Hold the phone upright at chest height. Tilted walls and door frames make a room look crooked.
- Shot from a corner or doorway to show the whole room — Stand in a corner or doorway so each photo shows as much of the room as possible, without heavy wide-angle distortion.
- Landscape (horizontal) orientation — Most listing sites display photos in landscape. Turn your phone sideways for every room shot.
- Clutter, cables, bins and personal items removed — Clear counters, hide bins and chargers, and take down personal photos before you shoot.
- Beds made, towels and cushions straightened — Smooth the bedding, fold towels neatly and plump the cushions. Small details show up in photos.
- Toilet seat down, mirrors and glass wiped — Close the toilet lid and wipe mirrors, glass and shiny surfaces to remove smudges and reflections.
- Every room guests or tenants will use has a clear photo — Add at least one photo of each bedroom, bathroom, the kitchen, the living space and any outdoor area or amenity you mention.
- The cover photo is your brightest, strongest shot — Your first photo is the thumbnail in search results. Use your brightest wide shot of the main living space or the best view.
- Photos show the property as it is today — Replace old photos and avoid edits that add or remove features. People compare your photos with what they find on arrival.
- Original, sharp files (no screenshots or compressed copies) — Upload the original files from your phone, not screenshots or copies sent through messaging apps, which reduce quality.
Questions about the checker
Does this checker upload my photos?
No. The checklist runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded or saved. Tick each item that's true for the photos you have now.
Which listing sites is it for?
The basics apply to Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking.com, Rightmove, Zoopla, Zillow and most other rental and property sites. Check each site's own photo requirements too.
Can ProLister fix photos that fail the checklist?
ProLister fixes lighting, colour, sharpness and straight lines in your phone photos, without adding or removing anything in the room. It can't tidy a room or take a missing shot, so prep and coverage are still up to you.
